BSH Conference Workshop - Finding Literacy

To fully grasp what they read, whether it’s a book or a math problem, and to clearly express themselves verbally and in writing, students need more than basic reading and writing skills. They also need exposure to a variety of words, ideas, and experiences that build their vocabulary and background knowledge. That’s where you come in! In this interactive session with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) National Technical Assistance Center (NTAC), you’ll explore simple yet innovative ways to weave literacy practices into your daily out-of-school time (OST) programming. You’ll leave with strategies for connecting literacy to just about everything you do, whether you’re leading a STEAM or art activity, taking a field trip, playing a game, chatting with students during snack time, or organizing a reader’s theater.
